SPEEDBUMP INSTALLATION

SPEEDBUMP INSTALLATION

Wally’s Sealing & Paving Inc. are your local experts for speedbump installations. Installing speedbumps brings safety to passing pedestrians and complex residents.

OUR PROCESS

Our estimating team will first come to the site to take note of the roadways needing speedbumps and then mark desired locations accordingly. Each speed bump will be 3 feet wide, starting 1 foot away from the curb, and ending 1 foot away from another. These spaces will allow water flow to continue downside of the roadway and in between speedbumps.

Once the speedbump location is confirmed and marked. Our team will route a 3/4” deep and wide trench just inside the perimeter markings of the speedbump. As well, 3/4” deep and wide trenches will be routed strategically throughout the inner part of the perimeter markings. These routed trenches on the asphalt base will anchor and secure the new speedbump to the roadway. When the new asphalt is laid it will cure within the trenches serving as an anchor to roadway for the rest of the speedbump. Adding to the speedbump’s toughness and stability, our team will roll on a generous layer of SS1 tack coat to all asphalt within the speedbump perimeter markings. Along with the routed trenches, the SS1 tack coat is the primer and glue that will bond the existing base pavement layer to the newly applied layer. Next, our team will fill the marked area with hot HL3A asphalt. The fresh asphalt will be raked, sloped, then compressed to reach a 3” centre point crest. Gradually sloped on either side from the crest, your new speedbump will safely slow down all passing motor vehicles.

With the purpose of never closing an entire roadway, we will only complete speedbumps on one side of the road at a time. Since curing times for speedbumps are much quicker, we will usually be able to complete the speedbumps on the other side of roadway a few hours after we complete the first side.
